The ownership of so many ports across the country (in addition to those held overseas) could propel Adani’s desire in towards becoming one of the biggest coastal shipping companies in India. By combining ports, ships (he already owns a few ships and has several others on charter) and cargo, and backed by enough land for loading and unloading operations, Adani could offer packages that few could match.

Adani’s other interests include edible oil (Adani-Wilmar is the largest branded edible oil company in India today), real estate development, agricultural logistics, power generation, transmission and distribution and now gas distribution as well. But it is ports that will give him the edge that few can match. In fact, as data on ports shows, the private sector has already been growing faster than government-owned ports (see Table 3). Adani’s contribution in this sector is immense.
